I run until the
sidwalk ends in
gravel rubble
symbol to turn around
or run deeper
depending on what
symbolism you seek

it isn’t that I have hit a stop
writer’s block
on day thirty
it is just that the well
has run dry
all gravel rubble
all cotton mouth

it isn’t that
the world has ended
just that grandparents
died in isolation
and in New York a
nurse leaves three
children behind

the record player skips
the coffee pot breaks
we are running on
fumes and fables
maybe meaningless
